I am currently completing my Diversity practicum in SuperKids Junior Academy, the daycare where I work. Initially, I felt it was an unlikely selection for "diversity", however, this practicum has revealed daily that diversity is everywhere, and challenged me to look deeper.
The daycare includes children on assistance for low socioeconomic status, those working closely with Pediatric Therapy Partners in Bismarck, and developmental differences. However, my observations have primarily focused on young children in the Foster Care system and other uncommon family structures, and the effect on their behavior and development.
Block II Practicum (Spring 2017)
My assigned classroom at Liberty Elementary has multiple students receiving push-in services, on IEPs, and other behavioral management systems. I work closely with many of these students one-on-one throughout my practicum to better facilitate their learning.
Bloody Sunday Forum (Spring 2017)
As a requirement of our diversity practicum, I attended Grounds for Belief featuring Mr. Stevie Kane who presented on his experience of "civil war" in Ireland in the 1970s. Mr. Kane's presentation was an eye-opening representation of culture and religion and the roles they play in our society.
